Expected and yet surprising. Almost in an instant, another year ends and it's time for the traditional post once again. A year that was challenging in every aspect. Lots of worries and inspiration for photography that came and left according to the national and personal mood. A whole year without any photo trip abroad (this is going to change soon) and here too, a few favorite areas were out of bounds and have not been visited this year (this is also going to change soon). Fortunately, the passion for landscape photography is much stronger than me, so this year too there were quite a few trips out into the field, which quickly turned out to be a particularly effective medicine for raising morale. So as at every end of the year, here are some of my favorite landscape photos from the past year.
A large part of the attention (photographic I mean) was naturally directed this year to the southern region. At the beginning of the year, rumors were circulating that I was seen hugging trees in the desert. As I have already said, this is not really true, I am just talking to them. Then, the second they are not paying attention, I take their picture.
Trees appear to have been a recurring motif this year (is there a psychologist in the audience?). A few sunrise visits to the western shore of the Sea Of Galilee provided the goods. The high water level and the few tourists were in favor. Here too, a few trees that were probably still a little sleepy at this early hour of the morning were caught.
The shores of the northern basin of the Dead Sea received several visits towards the end of the year. There aren't that many trees here (none, to be more precise). This wild and broken area provides a fascinating beauty that changes from year to year, even from month to month. I hope that in the coming years our attention will be diverted a little to preserving this national resource.
As every year, the Mediterranean coast provided a haven of relative peace and some sunsets for the soul. Sunset season started later than usual this year, but I still managed to take some photos before the year ends. Let's hope that just as it started late in the fall, it will end late in the spring. Not sure it works like that.
Speaking of a haven of peace, then a few nightly forays to the desert helped a lot in this regard. There is no year without night photography during the Milky Way season and this year was no exception. Here are some of the products.
This was 2024 in pictures. And what do we ask for next year? Not much. That the kidnapped will finally be released, that all the soldiers will return safely, that there will be peace, that we will know how to protect ourselves and nature, and that the national Nature and Parks Authority rangers will stop chasing photographers. Not too much to ask for (except maybe the rangers). And that next year will be full of landscape photography. A happy and safe year to everyone!!!
